Chemical composition reference — weight %
Alleima rows are nominal compositions, with limits where marked. ATI rows are flat-product chemistry limits, not pipe limits. “—” means no value is provided here; it does not mean zero.

Calculated pipe weight — 40S examples
Calculated using density 8.00 g/cm³ and nominal dimensions: kg/m = π/4 × (OD² − ID²) × density / 1000. Dimensions are in mm. Actual mass varies with alloy density and tolerances; these are not certified weights.

Welded pipe, general tubing and heat-exchanger tubes
Welded stainless products serve different specification families. A312 is a pipe reference, A269 is a general tubing reference, and A249 addresses welded austenitic tubes for boiler, superheater, heat-exchanger and condenser applications. Choose the family appropriate to the actual equipment.
| Reference item | Technical guidance |
|---|---|
| Pipe reference | ASTM A312 |
| General-service tubing reference | ASTM A269 |
| Welded heat-exchanger tubing reference | ASTM A249 |
| Mechanical tubing reference | ASTM A554 |
How to use this information
A welded tube intended for a fabricated mechanical assembly may have different requirements from a process pipe or heat-exchanger tube. Record the product form and governing standard before comparing dimensions or inspection scope.
Reference information explains the material or specification. Confirm actual dimensions, grade compliance, certificates and availability with the quotation. Manufacturer-specific approvals and properties apply to that manufacturer’s product.

Send the details below so our team can review your requirement. Sizes, supply conditions and documentation will be confirmed with your quotation.
| Material | Stainless steel |
| Grade | Specified grade |

| Standard & tolerance | Provide the applicable project specification |
| Finish | Specify your required surface finish |
| Quantity & documentation | Specify quantity and any certificate or inspection requirements |
Describe the weld and finished surface
Include the weld condition your fabrication or process specification requires. An enquiry for an external decorative finish is different from one requiring an internal surface condition. Where weld inspection, heat treatment or a particular welding process matters, list it alongside the tube dimensions. Specify whether lengths are supplied for fabrication or cut for a finished assembly.
Comparing supplier quotations
When reviewing a quotation, check whether the specified weld condition and finish apply to the internal surface, external surface or both. Use the project specification to define acceptance.

Final material suitability should be assessed against your project’s operating conditions and applicable standards.
Specifying stainless steel welded pipes and tubes
A welded pipe or tube is formed from material whose edges are joined by welding. Buyers should specify the manufacturing and inspection requirements that their project calls for, alongside grade and dimensions. “Welded” describes construction; it does not by itself establish a pressure rating, surface finish or compliance with a particular standard.
Make the weld requirements clear
State any requirements for weld condition, heat treatment, inspection and testing in the enquiry. If your specification calls for a particular welding process, include it explicitly. Do not use ERW as a universal synonym for every welded stainless steel product.
Questions about SS Welded Pipes & Tubes
Does welded always mean ERW?
No. A welded product can be made using different welding processes. Where the process matters, state the specific requirement instead of assuming it from the word welded.
What details help with a welded tube quotation?
Provide grade, outside diameter, wall thickness, length, quantity, dimensional tolerances, finish and any weld or inspection requirements. Include the material standard and delivery destination.
