Chemical composition reference — weight %
Alleima rows are nominal compositions, with limits where marked. ATI rows are flat-product chemistry limits, not pipe limits. “—” means no value is provided here; it does not mean zero.

Calculated round-tube examples
Illustrative dimensions to explain bore and mass calculations, not a standard or supplied range. ID = OD − 2 × wall. Mass assumes nominal circular geometry and density 8.00 g/cm³. Precision tolerances must be specified separately.

Capillary tubing and small-diameter standard scope
ASTM A632 addresses specified small-diameter stainless tubing. Its published scope covers OD below 12.7 mm down to 1.27 mm, with wall below 1.65 mm down to 0.13 mm. These are standard-scope boundaries, not a Tokk Steel stock list; products outside that scope need an appropriate specification.
| Reference item | Technical guidance |
|---|---|
| Grade identity | Choose the grade |
| Small-diameter reference | ASTM A632, subject to product scope |
| Nominal wall relation | Wall = (OD − ID) / 2 for a circular tube |
| Acceptance details | Bore, OD/wall tolerances and end condition |
How to use this information
A capillary label does not establish bore size, cleanliness or flow performance. Define these requirements on the drawing and assess whether the specified tube falls within the chosen standard.
Reference information explains the material or specification. Confirm actual dimensions, grade compliance, certificates and availability with the quotation. Manufacturer-specific approvals and properties apply to that manufacturer’s product.

| Finish | Specify your required surface finish |
| Quantity & documentation | Specify quantity and any certificate or inspection requirements |
Define the precision requirement, not only the name
A capillary tube enquiry should include the bore and dimensional tolerances required by the application. Define grade, outside diameter, wall thickness and cut length alongside any straightness, end-finish or cleanliness criteria. Where the tube fits another component or controls a fluid path, identify the acceptance requirements on a drawing.
Comparing supplier quotations
Compare nominal dimensions and tolerances together. The term capillary does not itself define a particular bore, pressure rating or cleanliness level.

Typical application areas
- Project-specific equipment
- Industrial assemblies
- Requirements defined by your design
Final material suitability should be assessed against your project’s operating conditions and applicable standards.
Precision begins with the capillary tube dimensions
Capillary tube enquiries need more than a small outside diameter. Define the internal bore, wall thickness, dimensional tolerances and end condition required for your assembly. These details help distinguish a precision requirement from a general small-diameter tube enquiry.
Outside diameter, bore and wall thickness
For a circular tube, nominal wall thickness is half the difference between outside and inside diameter. Tolerances must also be considered, especially where flow, fit or assembly clearance matters. Provide a drawing when the bore, straightness, end finish or cut length has a specific acceptance criterion.
Questions about Stainless Steel Capillary Tubes
What dimensions should I send for capillary tubes?
Provide outside diameter, inside diameter or wall thickness, tolerances, cut length and quantity. Also state grade, construction, finish and any cleanliness or end-condition requirements.
Are all small-diameter tubes capillary tubes?
The label alone is not a complete specification. Define the bore and tolerances needed for your application so the enquiry can be evaluated accurately.
